This may make me the biggest geek ever

But I'm counting down to January 24.

For your consideration

And, so with the announcement of the Golden Globe nominees this week, awards season is off to its official start as is, at least in my case, a month of even more than usual compulsive movie watching.

That said, I can't help but be a little disappointed by the nominees, or more specifically the absence of a nomination for Steve Carell as best supporting in Little Miss Sunshine. Maybe it's a case for fan-dom gone horribly awry, but it was that performance that made me such a fan. Somehow he manages to make a potentially utterly ridiclous character completely human - think Amy Adams in June Bug (a performance, that, incidentally, was awarded with an Oscar nomination) - I was completely enthralled.

Let's see what happens with the Academy Awards.

Predictions tk, once I get the hang of posting regularly. Let's see just how long that takes.

A disclaimer, if you will

Actually, let's make that several.

It seems that I'm no good at this game. I've got the best intentions, though, but just not as much time as I would like. And, I've been trying to work out how best to write about movies without spoiling the endings.

The thing is, I've always believed that if learning the ending to a movie (or book) ruined the experience then it wasn't very good to begin with. If you saw The Sixth Sense knowing the twist ending, you'll know what I mean. It may have been a revelation at the time, but too soon after it's become a punchline. So, with that in mind, expect plot spoilers. Mostly because I don't see how it's possible to properly analyze something without addressing multiple aspects. Consider this yet another warning.

Or, in the words of Lauren Hynde (who, incidentally, was much better in on the page than in celluloid although that's another post entirely. And, at this rate, I'll get to it in August 2007): Wow. Deal with it, Sean. It's over. Rock and Roll.

Ten points for you if you know the source.

Please note: I will be writing about a real live movie soon. Really.

Just who does she think she is, anyway?

Well, friend, that's a good question.

I'm glad you asked.

I really like movies. Like, really, really like them. Perhaps even to the point of unhealthy obsession. I'm strangely okay with that.

For now, let's operate under the assumption that you know me personally (since at this stage, that's a fairly safe bet). This means that you might not be okay with my obsession. Chances are you've probably found yourself on the wrong end of one of my well intentioned discussions. Aren't you lucky? If you think that you are, please keep reading. And, if not rest assured, I won't bore you with any more movie talk (or at least I'll try). By the way, I'm aware that I do this with books, too. Sadly, you'll still have to watch out for this - for all of the obvious reasons, I'm going to have to leave my rants on that subject out.

What makes me qualified to do this? Well, for starters, I've got a computer and a blog. I've got some degrees, too. And, most importantly lots of opinions. If I'm doing this right, maybe I'll even have you caring about them. Here's to hoping, anyway.

And, so without further ado, please enjoy the feature presentation.
